I also love to know what other people are reading. I’m always enticed to skim through articles such as 53 Books You Won’t Be Able to Put Down or 29 New Books You’ll Want to Read This Fall. And so my never ending book list grows…
Lately, I’ve been drawn to books with powerful female protagonists or hilarious memoirs written by women about their everyday lives. Here are some books I’m currently enjoying.
Relish by Lucy Knisley: Knisley connects anecdotes from her life to lessons she learned in cooking and eating to bring you a graphic novel full of life, flavor, and humor. With beautifully illustrated recipes at the end of each chapter, you can cook alongside the memoir to put yourself in the shoes of the author.
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd: If you liked The Secret Life of Bees, then I recommend Sue Monk Kidd’s latest novel, The Invention of Wings. Through vivid imagery, a coming of age story of two young women in the throes of the beginning of abolition and the women’s rights movement is told.
Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple: The novel’s dialogue, presented in the form of emails, documents, and secret correspondence, keeps you laughing and guessing as you discover the reason behind a mother’s disappearing and witness the strength of a mother-daughter bond that unites a family.
Unabrow: The Misadventures of A Late Bloomer by Una LaMarche: This hilarious memoir is comprised of a series of essays that cover topics ranging from the pain of childbirth to the difficulty of buying Girl Scout cookies.
Have you read any of these? What books have you enjoyed lately?
P.S.: Have you taken The Rory Gilmore Book Challenge?
